Guidance/Counseling
Sesser-Valier High School maintains an active guidance & counseling program.  The information listed below is intended to help SVHS students and parents keep informed about student assessments, college entrance/registration/application requirements, scholarships (applications, deadlines, etc.), student scheduling, and how to request academic records.

Student Assessment

ACT - Juniors will need to sign up on www.act.org to take the ACT exam.

SAT - All juniors will take the SAT on 04/10/2018. This is a state requirement.

  

    
Students wanting to retake the ACT should visit the ACT website at  www.act.org to register to take the test. Test dates and information regarding the test are available on the ACT website. 

AP Testing - AP deposits are order form are due Friday, February 16, 2018.  You have to have your order form and deposit by 2/16/18 for a test to be ordered. AP tests will be in May.  See Mrs. Henry if you have any questions.

College Information

    Representatives from the following colleges/universities will be conducting informational meetings at Sesser-Valier High School:


        

Seniors planning to attend a four-year university in the fall of 2018 need to start applying for admission. Also, check college websites for open house dates. Open houses are a great way to gain a lot of information about each college/university.


      
    College/Military Visitation

        A senior is permitted two visits to a college or university of his/her choice providing the following requirements are met: (1) the student notifies his or her teachers prior to leaving and completes the necessary forms. Even though the student is not in attendance, he/she shall not be counted absent. (2) A student must be eligible to  graduate in order to secure a college visit. (3) All visitations should be prior to the 
month of May, and one visit shall be on the first day of the Prairie State Exam. (A 
third college or university visit may be approved by school administration if a senior must complete an on-campus college exam for admission, must complete and on-campus task for receipt of a scholarship, or must attend a required orientation day.
       
    Financial Aid 

 Seniors the financial aid application will be available starting OCTOBER 1, 2017.   The financial aid application/information will be available at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.  It is recommended that the FAFSA be completed by December 1, 2017.  THIS IS A NEW DATE FOR THE FAFSA. PLEASE COMPLETE IT IN OCTOBER.

Scholarship Information 


The Sesser Junior Woman's Club has a scholarship available for seniors. The deadline is 3/12/2018.  See Mrs. Henry for an application.

Eternal Friends in Christ has a scholarship available to any high school senior. The deadline is 3/15/2018. See Mrs. Henry for an application.

Illinois Sheriffs' Association has a scholarship available to any senior. The deadline is 3/15/2018. The application is available at www.ilsheriff.org. See Mrs. Henry if you have any questions.

The Franklin County Auxiliary has various scholarships available for seniors planning to major in healthcare. The deadline is 3/15/2018. Please see Mrs. Henry for an application.

The Tom Mygatt Memorial Scholarship is available to seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The application is available at http://www.sicf.org/tom-mygatt.  The deadline is March 16, 2018. See Mrs.Henry if you would like a paper copy or have any questions.

Hope Between the Vessels Scholarship is available to any senior (preference will be given to seniors planning to major in a healthcare related field. The deadline is 3/16/18. See Mrs. Henry for an application.

The Dan Williams Memorial Scholarship is available to any senior. The deadline is 3/21/18. See Mrs. Henry for an application.

St. Christopher Knights of Columbus has scholarships available to seniors. The deadline is 3/28/2018.  See Mrs. Henry for an application.

SIU Credit Union has various scholarships available to seniors. The applicant or the applicant's legal guardian must be a SIU Credit Union member in good standing and maintain that membership status throughout the duration of the award to apply for the scholarship. SSM Health has various scholarships available to seniors planning to major in a healthcare career. The deadline is 3/31/2018.  See Mrs. Henry for an application. 

Crosswalk Community Action Agency has a scholarship available to seniors that meet specific income guidelines. The deadline is 4/1/2018. See Mrs. Henry for an application.

The Sesser-Goode Masonic Lodge has a scholarship available to a senior scholar bowl member. The deadline is 4/5/18. See Mrs. Henry for an application.

Sesser Ducks Unlimited has a scholarship available to any senior. The deadline is 4/6/2018. See Mrs. Henry for an application.

SSM Health has a nursing scholarship available to seniors planning to major in a healthcare career. The deadline is 4/08/2018.  See Mrs. Henry for an application. 

Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation has various scholarships available for senior students. Scholarships are available at www.ilvets.org. Deadlines vary for each scholarship. See Mrs. Henry if you have any questions.
